Preventive Health Care

"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
-- Henry de Bracton (c.1250)

Pediatrics is the number one specialty in medicine to concern itself with preemptive care.

WHY PREVENTIVE CARE:

Preventive health care begins with good prenatal care during pregnancy, continues with proper car seat usage for the first ride home from the hospital, and concludes with counseling adolescent and college-age patients for transition to adulthood.

ACCIDENT PREVENTION:

Did you know that accidents are the leading cause of hospitalization and death after a year of age and that 80% of those accidents are preventable? So discussion of childproofing your house is an important part of health maintenance.

CHECK UPS:

We subscribe to the AAP practice of routine monthly scheduled visits for infants gradually becoming annual physical exams for children of all ages. We monitor growth physically and developmentally. We discuss any chronic health problems your child may have and help guide you to the best possible Health Topics. We help monitor any medications that are prescribed.

IMMUNIZATIONS:

We also fully endorse the use of vaccinations to prevent communicable diseases. We believe, as does the WHO, ACIP and the AMA, that the benefit of disease prevention through vaccination outweighs the risks of vaccine administration. We will be happy to discuss the relative merits of vaccination at any office visit. Please refer to the figure below for the current vaccination schedule.

THE FUTURE:

There are many more things that we, as pediatricians, can do and should do better. The alarming rate of obesity in childhood is astronomical with severe consequences for future health. Too many young teens are still smoking and drug usage is all too prevalent. The list goes on...

Your child's future health status can be directly affected by thorough counseling by our pediatricians. So, don't delay, schedule your annual check up today!
